This is a summer program designed to assist all underclassmen and family members through the college search process. While on campus, students will receive advice regarding the college selection process, campus tours, interviews, and essay writing. This event is not about Sewanee specifically, but there will be opportunities to learn more about us.
What topics will Admission 101 cover?
- Shaping your college search – an admission counselor will help you create a timeline for the search process and discuss the most important aspects of choosing a college for you.
- Mastering the admission interview – watch as admission counselors demonstrate appropriate and inappropriate interview behavior and discuss the importance of the interview in admission decisions.
- Maximizing the campus visit and tour – discover what a typical campus tour entails and learn what information to ask about on the tour.
- Financing your education – get the scoop on the realities of need-based aid, merit scholarships, loans, grants, and financial aid deadlines.
- Mock Admission Committee – become members of an admission committee and see how colleges evaluate applications.
- Athletics and admission – see what rules and regulations govern recruitment of student athletes (optional).

When and Where?
Admission 101 will take place at Sewanee, a private, co-educational university ranked among the top liberal arts colleges in the country. It is a day-long program. You choose which day is good for you – Friday, June 27 or Friday, July 18. Registration will be from 8–8:45 a.m. Central Time.
Directions – Sewanee is located near I-24, 50 miles northwest of Chattanooga and 90 miles southeast of Nashville, Tennessee.
From I-24 (east or west) take Exit 134. Turn left off the exit ramp (US 41A North). Travel about five miles and pass through stone gates, bear right toward Sewanee — this is University Avenue. After the stoplight, turn right into the parking lot. There will be signs directing you toward registration.
From Huntsville, AL and surrounding areas take US 64 past Winchester to US 41A South (Cowan, Tenn.) exit to Sewanee on University Avenue.
