Generous support from alumni and the university’s substantial 315 million dollar endowment help Sewanee provide a wide array of merit scholarships and need-based grants. We realize, however, that an investment in private education is still a substantial one for most families. Our scholarship, loan, and other financial aid programs help to ensure that cost is not the primary factor in your decision to come to Sewanee.
Financial Aid Packages
About 60% of the student body receives some type of aid.
Financial aid packages consist of a combination of grants, work-study jobs, loans, and scholarships.
Student loans have low interest rates compared to current consumer loans. Loan terms include deferment options during graduate school and long-term repayment plans.
A special Sewanee plan, the Sewanee Educational Assistance Loan (SEAL), allows parents to borrow money with no accrued interest while the student is enrolled. Payment begins one month after graduation.
An optional interest-free payment plan allow families to pay annual costs in 10 monthly payments.
Merit-Based Scholarships
Merit-based scholarships are administered through the Office of Admission and determined by academic achievement, intellectual promise, leadership ability, and potential for service regardless of financial need.
The deadline for merit applications is December 9.
