Apply

All students who think they need financial assistance to attend the University of the South should apply for financial aid. Prospective students cannot be awarded financial aid until the University accepts them for admission. Continuing students are considered for financial aid after grades are issued following the Easter Semester. Students must re-apply each year for need-based aid as circumstances may change for the applicant and/or the University with regard to the amount of available funds.

To establish your eligibility for need-based aid, between January 1 and March 1 submit:

1. The
Sewanee Financial Aid Application

2. The
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

When completing the school section of the FAFSA remember to enter the proper school code for Sewanee (003534).

Tennessee residents who wish to apply for the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship program must file a FAFSA to be considered. Additional information is available from the
Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation.

Application Deadlines

Financial aid applications postmarked by March 1 of each year are given priority consideration. Prospective student applicants who meet the priority deadline should receive their aid awards no later than May 1. Continuing students who meet the deadline will begin receiving their awards after Easter Semester grades are issued. Applicants who fail to meet the priority deadline will be awarded aid only upon availability and are subject to a reduction in the grant/scholarship portion of any award they may receive.

Early Decision

Prospective students applying as Early Decision candidates for admission and seeking need-based financial aid will receive information on calculating an
estimated family contribution. The family financial information entered on this site will be analyzed using formulae similar to those used on the FAFSA. The results of this calculation are then submitted to Sewanee with additional information to allow our staff to calculate an estimated award. Estimates are only provided to Early Decision applicants. The deadline for receipt of Early Decision Needs Analysis requests is December 20.
